Even teenagers who are sick and tired of being told they're too young to do this or have that may be sorry to learn how democratic alcoholism is: you're never too young to get it. We hear that alcoholism is a self-diagnosed disease. That can sound off-the-wall when we consider how easy it is for family, friends, teachers, and sometimes even the justice system to tell us we have a drinking and using problem.

For simplicity's sake only, I often refer to alcohol through much of this book. But the principles apply to any addiction, chemical or otherwise.
